A blog where I chat to theatre makers to discuss what went into making their show, what challenges they faced and why they made certain decisions. The aim is to invite people we don’t often hear from speak about their work.

At some point I realised that quite often I walk out of a show and think “Wow, that was incredible. How on Earth did they do that?” and I never really get to find out. There is an enormous structure of creatives behind every show. They make complicated decisions that end up shaping the final look of the show, and we hardly ever get to hear from them. That’s why I made this blog! I’m interested in hearing from all sorts of theatremakers who usually work behind the curtains, learning about their experiences and the inspiration behind their ideas and sharing that.

This is also a place for me to share some personal thoughts on different aspects of making theatre. Positive and negative things that I consistently notice, ideas that I find useful and stuff I wish somebody told me about earlier: that’s all here!

About me

My name is Vlada. Originally from Moscow, I’ve lived in Edinburgh for the past five. I’m a recent English lit. graduate and an emerging theatre director. I am currently working on a production of Pink House by Madison Pollack, premiering at Fringe 2019.
